Alternatively: (1)Download this firefox add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3682 (2)Click on the Google Desktop icon in your system tray and select 'Search Desktop' from the pop-up menu (3)Just make a right click (Ctrl+click on a Mac) with the mouse pointer on top of Google Desktop's search box and choose "Add to Search Bar..."

Worked for me exactly as advertised. I followed the steps and it works fine--even while I was in the process of re-indexing my desktop!

crappy. i did the following:Integrate Google Desktop into Firefox Google Desktop search exampleFirefox provides a dedicated box to search the internet. You can use that box to search your computer with Google Desktop as well. Follow these instructions: 1. Click on the Google Desktop icon in your system tray and select 'Search Desktop' from the pop-up menu. 2. In the new browser window, click the [Search Desktop] button without entering anything in the text box. That page will now have a location similar to: http://127.0.0.1:4664/search&s=xxxxxxxxxx?q=&btnG=Search+Desktop 3. Copy the location of that page into the box below and click [Go]. but the only thing i got was the beginning sequence of numbers: http://127.0.0.1:4664/ i went ahead and pasted it, it gives me an oops/error. i left the google desktop dialog seearch box blank. uninstalled, then I tried it all over again. same thing. simply crappy. edit: i worked at it, so now i have a longer sequence, but still i get an error. i tried to see if it would work anyhow, and now it tells me: Invalid Request You requested a page that does not exist. You may have reached this page by clicking on an invalid link or bookmark. this is awful. goes to delete from system. waste of HD and bandwidth.

Instructions didn't quite work for me. Got an "Oops!" error (exactly like you did Shen). Got them to work by trying the following: 1) Make sure this page is open in the Firefox browser into which you want to load the plugin. 2) Click on "Search Desktop" in the Google Desktop pop-up menu -- but before copying the URL into the space provided on the "Download Plug-in" page, hit the enter key to get actual search results (you should get no results; you didn't search for anything). NOW copy the URL from THAT results page into the space provided on the "Doanload Plug-in" page, and install the plugin. Works like a charm.

Il convient de regretter que la langue française ne soit pas utiliseée sur tous vos sites

1) Said it could not install the search engine because an engine with that name already exists, then 2) When I tried to use search desktop from the Firefox search box it said I was trying to access an invalid site. > Ergo it does not work as stipulated on Desktop Search 5.7 and Firefox 3.0.3

Neither this nor the Internet Explorer version work! The download page says the link should appear as: "http://127.0.0.1:4664/search&s=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx?q=&btnG=Search+Desktop" Mine is only: "http://localhost:4664/&s=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" It therfore just gives me the "Oops! Something went wrong" page. Apparently this plug-in needs to be updated, as it is currently useless/non-existant.

This caused a minor issue in Gmail for me. Whenever I was composing an email, every time I typed a letter you would see the "status bar" at the bottom of Firefox refresh itself as if it had loaded a new web page. It did this with every letter. Took me a while to figure out it was this plugin. Not a huge issue, but it got ridiculously annoying and had to get rid of it.
