Desktop for Windows Help

Google Desktop offers the following keyboard shortcuts:

  • Shift-Shift: Pressing Shift on your keyboard twice hides or displays your undocked gadgets, and brings any hidden gadget to the front of your screen.
  • Ctrl-Ctrl: Pressing Ctrl twice makes the Quick Search Box appear. Learn how to change the hotkey.
  • Ctrl-Alt-G or Windows-G: This keyboard shortcut places the cursor in the search box of your Google Desktop Deskbar, sidebar, or Floating Deskbar.
  • Windows-Space: This keyboard shortcut performs the same action as the Shift-Shift shortcut, by displaying any hidden gadgets on your desktop.

If you'd like to disable these special shortcuts, you can do so by editing the Windows system registry.

Editing the Windows registry is an advanced process, so you might want to contact your system administrator for help.

  1. Exit Google Desktop by clicking the Desktop icon in your system tray and selecting Exit.
  2. Open your registry editor.
  3. In HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Google Desktop\Preferences, create a DWORD value named hot_key_flags.
  4. Double-click the value you've just created and enter the number that corresponds with your preference. Alternatively, you can entirely delete the hot_key_flags entry to enable all Desktop shortcuts.
